Top 5 Tuesday // Unread 2019 Releases – Books I Didn’t Get to in 2019

Christmas - T5T E.png

Ahhh another year nearly over, another TBR I ignored.

Well, to be fair I have actually read a lot of books I already own this year, which was my plan, compared to other recent years and yet I am still drowning in books.

That probably has more to do with the fact that I’ve also bought more books than I ever have in one year before. Oops.

For this post I’m going to focus on books that were released this year that I was looking forward to reading and then never did.

There’ll be a chance, Nina Borisovna, her father had said. Don’t ask, when you see it. Just fucking take it.

WWII was my crack at 11 years old.

No seriously, I searched my school library from top to bottom, seeking out any book that would transplant me to that war-torn space in time.

Why??? Who knows! I was a curious 11 year old who had morbid interests. But I think, mostly I just wanted to understand how the fuck the world had gotten to a point where a man like Hitler could gain power and wreck absolute havoc on innocent people.

history repeats itself.gifHey look, it’s 2019, I’m 25 and I’m wondering the same thing all over again but with a different dictator.

History is a circle.

Although I no longer have that same fervour for the topic, it does still interest me a lot and this sounds like exactly the kind of book to help me revisit it.

“I love you as much as I’m willing to love anybody.”

Reid’s Evelyn Hugo still owns my whole ass heart so why the hell would I not just immediately pledge allegiance to her latest female character???

I have high high hopes, and am slightly worried I will be let down but I’m still looking forward to and I swear to god I’ll get to it next year.

Probably. Maybe. Hopefully.

I am at the mercy of these men. Of these horrible, terrible, abusive men.

The moment I read Destiny’s review for this book, I knew I had to get my hands on it.  A book about challenging misogyny and rape culture?? Smells like my kind of book!

And then I saw it in store and knew it had to by mine so I bought it then and there.

Sometimes you just know.

the flatshareThe Flatshare│Beth O’Leary

“What is this, medieval times? I bet I’m better at punching people than Leon.”

Um, two people share a bed and communicate through post it notes and probably fall in love????? Sign me the fuck up!

I’m not someone who is normally quick to add a romance to by TBR. When I do add one, I’m pretty selective because I want to enjoy the genre again, and I’m worried it’ll take just one bad romance for me to be avoid the genre for 7 years again.

But bed sharing and close living spaces is one of my favourite tropes and communicating through post it notes sounds so cute as long as it’s not passive aggressive BS like the shit my ex housemate use to pull.

john mulaney unpack that

Now that I’ve unpacked that, maybe I just need this book to replace some really shitty memories I want to be rid of? And if that’s all this book accomplishes for me? Then I’ll be thankful for it.

call down the hawk the dreamer trilogy TDTCall Down the Hawk│Maggie Stiefvater

You are made of dreams and this world is not for you.

In a perfect world I would have already finished The Raven King and would have also finished Call Down the Hawk not long after it came out.

Unfortunately for me it is not a perfect world and I am scared of finishing The Raven King but also excited to read Call Down the Hawk so instead I am an anxious ball for excited and fearful fangirl energy and I don’t know what to do about it.

Probably I’ll just keep crying that I’m not ready for The Raven Cycle to be over yet.

Also where does one go to read Opal??? Can anyone tell me??? Wait. Nevermind. I found it on Google Play.

I have failed at reading new releases this year!

The only new releases I’ve read this year have been memoirs, graphic novels and one YA book???? The shame!

What 2019 releases did you read?
Did you read any of these books?
Do you prefer to read new releases or back-listed books?
