The Questions

Inside flap/back of the book summaries: too much info or not enough?

I have thought deep and hard about it and I do not have a single opinion on this.

Like??? It’s fine???? It depends on the book I guess.

I like getting enough information that I can tell if it’s a book for me but some books are best with minimal information because it’s better going in blind.

But one thing I do think should be included is content warnings and representation because both of those things are so important and I wish publishing houses would realise and acknowledge it.

Oh turns out I do have an opinion. Oops.

New book: what form do you want it to be in? Be honest: audiobook, e-book, paperback, or hardcover?

I prefer owning paperbacks.

I love the look of hardbacks because they look pretty but paperbacks don’t hurt so much to hold and they’re cheaper.

But I do love e-books & audiobooks because I can read those anywhere and it’s just super practical.

Scribble while you read? Do you like to write in your books, take notes, make comments, or do you keep your books clean, clean, clean?

The works, I got coloured tabs and highlighters and post-it notes and I take extensive digital notes too.

But I’m about to switch it up and start writing and underlining in my books instead of highlighting so y’all can expect an updated annotated post in the near future.

Does it matter to you whether the author is male or female when you’re deciding on a book? What if you’re unsure of the author’s gender?

Gender is a social construct.

But yeah, most of the authors I read are women.

Ever read ahead? Or have you ever read the last page way before you got there?

I don’t.

I don’t think I’ve ever been someone who reads ahead. I just don’t feel the need to. But I’m also not someone who like, gets pissed when I’m accidentally spoiled for things. But that might be because I prefer to wait until the hype for books dies down and plenty of people have reviewed them first before I commit to a book.

I got commitment issues even with my books.

Organized bookshelves, or Outrageous bookshelves?

Organised. But like, chaotically organised.

I’ll even tell you how they’re organised: but keep your eyes peeled because I got an updated Owned TBR post coming out early next year

So I now have four bookcases. Two are in our library/gym room and now I have two more in my bedroom.

Library Bookcase 1

SFF/Horror

Shelf 1: Adult fantasy & horror.

Shelf 2: All my Victoria Schwab books. God tier books. The holy grail.

Shelf 3: SFF Gay Gang. Only prerequisite is that there’s gotta be a LGBT+ character in it. Top tier. Usually my top faves land here.

Shelf 4: Cassandra Clare’s Shadowhunters books. This runs over into the parallel shelf in bookcase #2. There’s so many! Will it ever end????

Shelf 5: Rick Riordan. So many fucking books. It takes up nearly an entire shelf and I’ve only read one of them.

Shelf 6: Card games ahah.

Library Bookcase 2

SFF/Horror/Historical

Shelf 1: Empty. Every shelf was pretty much full to an extent until I bought two more bookcases and now I have so much space for more books!

Shelf 2: Leigh Bardugo books. I decided that I now have enough of her books for her to get her own shelf. I’m only missing King of Scars and the collectors editions for the Six of Crow Duology.

Shelf 3: YA SFF/horror/historical. Books I still really enjoyed or plan on enjoying but lack the gay.

Shelf 4: Rest of Cassandra Clare’s Shadowhunters books. Basically just The Infernal Devices series. They would fit on the first shelf with the others but I have a pretty angel statue on that one instead and it takes up a lot of room.

Shelf 5: Harry Potter box-set + Spiderwick Chronicles.

Shelf 6: Random stuff my mum doesn’t have a place for.

Bedroom Bookcase 3

Non-Fic/Realistic Fiction

Shelf 1: Adult thrillers, mysteries, suspense. All that fun stuff!

Shelf 2: Girl Gang. My feminist shelf. Non-fic and fiction. I want ladies kicking ass, author’s talking about the truths of being a woman and historical badass bitches.

Shelf 3: Realistic Fiction Gay Gang. Only prerequisite is that there’s gotta be a LGBT+ character in it. Top Tier.

Shelf 4: Empty.

Shelf 5: Nothing.
