I’m so sad because I just realised that emojis are no longer displayed the same as they used to be and I don’t like it.

It’s 2019 WordPress, why can’t I have better looking emojis???

Oh god, what am I going to do with the Down the TBR Posts I have planned??????

For now, I’ve made my icon into a new separation graphic since I used to use the lightning storm emojis as a minor separation between my main separation graphics. Did that make sense? Probably not.

I’ve also changed my bullet symbol, because I used to use the lightning storm emoji for that too. For now I’ve settled with the just the cloud emoji but I’m going to search for an alternative.

So things look a little different.

The Questions

1. A book that you feel like you need to read because everyone talks about it.

This quote is especially relevant for me right now.

I’m answering the whole series for this.

I have finally read the first book but I’m yet to read farther than that.

I’m not usually someone who gives into reading peer pressure. At least not anymore, anyway.

I’m not going to read a book just because everyone is reading it. I’m only going to pick it up if I genuinely think I’ll like it.

So many readers grew up on the Percy Jackson series and it totally missed me.

I don’t know how because the first book came out when I was in primary school and I’ve always loved mythology??? Maybe it just wasn’t big enough in Australia for me to notice??? I don’t know.

But when I started on Goodreads, so many people were rereading the series and talking about how much they loved this childhood classic. So I knew that I needed to give it ago.

I was a bit worried after I revisited my childhood love, A Series of Unfortunate Events, and was sorely disappointed. But I really enjoyed Percy Jackson & the Lightning Thief and I can’t wait to finish the series and continue with more Riordan books.

2. A book that’s really long.

I want to visit 1920s America. And this one is quite big.

Like it’s not IT or A Song of Ice and Fire huge but still.

My poor little short attention span brain sees a page count of 400+ and wants to hide.

But I really want to read this one!!!

3. A book you’ve owned/had on your TBR for too long.

He was part of our family, and we weren’t wrong for loving him.

When I first stepped in the Goodreads world, I was predominately reading memoirs because I was trying to get myself back into reading and they were the easiest books for me to read. Plus they’re not that big and I was reading them on the train.

But then I was also reading A Game of Thrones????? Go figure.

4. A book that is “required” reading.

Okay here’s the thing.

Me and classics don’t go together well. And it’s mostly a language barrier.

Because, as much as I try, books written before a certain time just don’t make sense to me at all. I know it’s English, but it’s like a whole other language to me and so I struggle to understand what’s happening.

I’ve tried picking up a number of classics and they’ve basically all been failures. Thank god the Australian schooling system doesn’t rely on them like the US seems to.

When my drama class decided to do Shakespeare one semester, it became the only semester of my whole high school career that I didn’t do drama because I was intimidated big time.

But the thing is, I knew I’d love Shakespeare if I could just fucking understand it.

Maybe I should have stayed in Drama that semester and someone could have explained it to me but I was scared people would think I was an idiot so I just chose to opt the fuck out instead.

My co-worker and I talk about books a lot, and Shakespeare is something that comes up kind of often and every time I would tell her “I know I would love it, if I just had some kind of translator to translate to the English of today“ but it took months for her to mention the Spark Notes editions where they do exactly fucking that, because she figured I’d already tried it.

I had not. I didn’t even know it existed. I didn’t even know Spark Notes existed.

Wow what a long story just to tell you that I want to try and start reading the Spark Notes versions of Shakespeares’ plays.

5. A book that intimidates you.

Hello, I’m picking a series again.

They’re just all so big!!!!!

And what if the last book disappoints me as much as the final season of the show did??? What if I never even finish it??? There are too many what if’s in this situation for my anxious brain to handle.

6. A book that you think might be slow.

Eddie discovered one of his childhood’s great truths. Grownups are the real monsters, he thought.

No book has any business being over 1000 pages long. It should be illegal.

I loved the movie, and I want to try the book but I’m not sure I have it in me.

7. A book you need to be in the right mood for.

Sometimes weakness is a weapon. If you’re smart enough to use it.

This is one of those books I know I’ll love and so I have to be ready for it and I don’t know when that will be.

And I completely blame Piera Forde for hyping this up so much because if I don’t love it I’m gonna be pissed.

8. A book you’re unsure if you will like.

The Darkling slumped back in his chair. “Fine,” he said with a weary shrug. “Make me your villain.”

I fucking love Six of Crows but I’m worried this series might be too 2012 YA fantasy for my current tastes???

But god, my box-set of the series is fucking gorgeous so I’m gonna keep them whether I hate it or love it.
