Tag // My Bookshelves – My Pride & Joy

Hello, hello, hello! I’m here with another tag, third week in a row! I’m going to try and do more of these whether I’m tagged or not because these are so much fun to do!

I was tagged for this one by the lovely Jillian @ The Bookish Butterfly Blog! Thank you so much Jillian! Make sure you all go and check out her blog!

How many bookshelves do you have?

I have two of the Ikea Billy Bookcases. I have loads of other bookcases but they’re all used for things other than books.

How many books are on your bookshelves? Or how many books do you think you have?

I counted, 136 including the books I’ve loaned out to people!

How do you organize your books?

Uhhhh. It might be easiest to go through each shelf.

1. All of my Cassandra Clare books
2. My VE Schwab and Leigh Bardugo books
3. All my YA fantasy and ScFi
4. My Harry Potter books
5. My Rick Riordan books
6. My cook books
7. Reject Princesses and Bygone Badass Broads books as well as any biographies/memoirs
8. All my contemporaries
9. All my adult fantasy

I try to keep authors and genres together.

What is the oldest book on your bookshelf?

The books I’ve had the longest are probably my John Green books, but Thirteen Reasons Why might actually have been before even them. I think that’s the only one I still have that I had in high school. I’m probably going to unhaul it soon though because of reasons.

What is the newest book on your bookshelf?

Vicious Collector’s EditionVE Schwab

What is the longest book on your bookshelf?

ITStephen King1116 pages

What is the shortest book you own?

The Demigod FilesRick Riordan151 pages

What is the predominant genre on your bookshelf?

Have you done a bookshelf tour?

I posted a photo of my bookcases on Instagram this week and I made a post of all my owned unread books but that’s as close as I’ve come to any kind of bookshelf tour.

Go on a random number generator and talk about the book that corresponds with that number.

I got number 43 which on my shelf is Blue Lily, Lily Blue from the Raven Cycle series. I’ve not read it yet but I have read the Raven Boys and loved it! I will get to it eventually but right now I’m focusing on library books.

Do you have fan merchandise or any other decorations on your bookshelf?

I don’t really spend money on fan merch because I don’t get a lot of spare money after paying all my bills and I’d prefer to spend it on actual books but I do have a couple of things.

  1. Harry Potter wand I got from Spotlight when I was shopping for party stuff for my eighteenth birthday party. It was the year I had finally started reading the series for the first time and was obsessed!
  2. I have two phone cases that I bought from Redbubble that have book quotes on them. I got a new phone and smashed the screen of my previous one right before I was going to sell it because I didn’t have a bloody case on it. I was so angry at myself, and the only reason I didn’t have a case on it is that I didn’t like the ones I had for it anymore. I decided that for my new phone I would finally let myself buy bookish ones but only if they were the tough cases. I figure with bookish quotes on them, I’m far more likely to keep them on and so far so good!

The one on the left is from The King’s Men from the All For the Game Series by Nora Sakavic and the other from Nevernight by Jay Kristoff which I haven’t actually read but I really loved the quote and felt it suited me well. I might change it soon because I’ve had The King’s Men one on since I bought them and it’s a bit worse for wear now.

Show us your bookshelf?

I’d be delighted to!

  1. I bought the US redesigned cover of Vicious and then I saw the UK one. Holy crap!

I’ve always wondered: why IKEA Billy Bookcases? I love my bookcases because they are so sturdy, yet everyone seems to have the Billy Bookcase. I’m just curious.

    1. I’m getting the us one in paper back because the uk one is a collectors edition and I like to mark my fave quotes but I don’t like doing that to collectors editions ahah

I got them because they’re relatively inexpensive, and if you’re really broke like me it’s easy to find them even cheaper for second hand. I bought both second hand for the same price as one brand new.

I also like them because they’re not as deep as a lot of other bookcases so they don’t take up as much room and you don’t get as much shadow so you can see the books better.

Also I have fms so moving furniture can leave me bed ridden and I move house a lot and also move furniture around often because I’m indecisive af so I prefer a lighter weight option while still having floor to (almost) ceiling bookcases.
