Pride Month

This month is pride month! We have a few days left so I wanted to share my favourite Pride month posts!

Avery @ Red Rocket Panda shared their pride and Ramadan TBR’s for this month!

Thanks to all of these wonderful posts I was able to find loads more books to read with LGBTQIAP+ rep and I am so very thankful!!

On the subject of representation, I want to share some more posts about various rep as well!

Trauma and Abuse

Elise @ The Bookish Actress discusses trauma in YA and why some of the tropes really bother her. It’s rather long but stick with it because it’s 200% worth it!

Vicky @ Vicky Who Reads talks about abuse in YA, using the book Always Forever Maybe to give an example of what she believes is good rep! She also talks about how her views on abuse have changed as well! I’ve now added the book to my TBR because good abuse rep is hard to find and I’m interested to see if I agree that is, as someone who has been in an abusive relationship.

Ownvoices

May @ Forever and Everly chats about the pressure Ownvoices rep puts on both authors and reviewers and how it can err on the side of problematic when it comes to making people feel like they have to come out as their minority when they don’t want to and policing people’s opinion when we never really know for sure if they aren’t Ownvoices. As someone who is pretty open about what I have and haven’t experienced and what minorities I am a part of, I had never thought that maybe someone might struggle with coming forward about those things (other than identifying as LBGTQIAP+) so I’m really glad May made me think about that!

Wendy @ What the Log had to Say made an announcement that she would be sharing more Mental Health posts and asked if other bloggers would like to contribute and I raised my hand! I wanted to step outside of my box and challenge myself. Keep your eyes peeled for that one!

Fadwa @ Word Wonders shares her long list of spreadsheets. From tracking her read books, ARCs and series as well as how she includes her reading in her bullet journal.

Guys, this gave me the organizational and the spreadsheet flutters. I have been inspired and will be going spreadsheet crazy in the near future. Oh god, I love a good spreadsheet. 

True story: I once had a spreadsheet to keep track of movies coming out and which ones myself and my best friend wanted to watch. I ended up deleting it because my friend never fucking used it. I’m not bitter.

Book Discussions

Ellyn @ Allonsythornraxx chats about watching movies before reading the book and I’m someone who will wait until after watching the screen adaption before reading the book if I haven’t already for the most part because screen adaptions haven’t had the best track record so consuming them in this order allows me to appreciate each for what they are.

The Orangutan Librarian discusses how reviews are for readers and the problems with authors getting too involved in people’s reviews of their books and yes! Yes! Yes! Agree 100%!
