This week, on Top 5 Tuesday, we will be discussing our top 5 books we’d save in a fire and y’all. This is gonna be tough!

Honestly, my heart would break if I lost all, but five, of books! I’ve spent the last two years building up my collection, basically from scratch and the thought of starting all over again makes me anxious af!

However, I am going to try and list the books I would save first. These will be mostly Special/Collector’s Editions that I might not be able to get a hold of again, as well as a couple of books that were quite pricey. I figured saving a whole collection as one option was probably cheating…

Cloud Separation

A Darker Shade of Magic collectors edition SOM.jpgA Darker Shade of Magic│Exclusive Collector’s Edition│Shades of Magic #1│V. E. Schwab│★★★★★│

☁️ Endpapers featuring fan art
☁️ A glossary of Arnesian and Antari terms
☁️ An interview between author and editor
☁️ Original (never before seen!) tales from within the Shades of Magic world
☁️ Signed title page

I mean, look how pretty it is! Before this was released, I had been counting down the days for it! I even pre-ordered it! Plus it has extra content so, yes, I will be reaching for this one first.

☁️ Over thirty interior illustrations
☁️ Six new full-page colour portraits of everyone’s favourite characters
☁️ Four bonus stories that have previously only appeared in limited distribution
☁️ A new piece written by Cassandra Clare

I mean, it is just gorgeous! Even though my love for the series has diminished over time and growth, I am a sucker for a special edition…Again, it has loads of extra content as well!

☁️ A brand-new introduction from John Green
☁️ Never-before-seen passages from the original manuscript
☁️ A Q&A with the author, responding to fans’ favourite questions

Listen, I’m probably going to buy anything that’s gold. And I’m especially going to buy a gold, 10th-anniversary edition of what was my favourite book for years! Looking for Alaska will always have a special place in my heart, and I’m glad I have this beauty on my shelf to represent that. Once again, it includes some extra content as well!

rejected princessesRejected Princesses│Jason Porath

☁️ Noor Inayat Khan: The Spy Princess
☁️ Khutulun: The Wrestler Princess
☁️ Ida Bell Wells: Princess of the Press
☁️ Iara: Brazil’s Lady of the Lake
☁️ Tomyris: Head-defiling Warrior Queen
☁️ Wu Zetian: China’s Only Female Emperor
☁️ Hatshepsut: The Unforgettable Pharaoh

This book is huge, not Trump’s hands huge, but like, actually huge.

I think this excerpt from the synopsis describes it perfectly: “Well-behaved women seldom make history. Good thing these women are far from well behaved…”

Jason Porath does a fantastic job of collecting stories of women from history. He shares his interpretation of each woman, not just through his own words, but also through his own illustrations as well.

I’ve used it as a resource for my Ancient Archive series, and I see myself turning to it more in the future, as it has loads of women to choose from, including:

I can’t recommend this book more, it’s something I think any home with a young girl or woman should own.

the language of thornsThe Language of Thorns│Leigh Bardugo

☁️ Ayama and the Thorn Wood
☁️ The Too-Clever Fox
☁️ The Witch of Duva
☁️ Little Knife
☁️ The Soldier Prince
☁️ When Water Sand Fire

This book is just so gorgeous. Seriously. Name a more beautiful book. I’ll wait. These illustrations are to die for!

I haven’t yet read it but I’ve heard nothing but amazing things! It includes six stories set in the Grishaverse, three of them new.

Don’t all of those titles sound so interesting?!

Cloud & Lightning Separation

So that’s my top 5 books I’d save in a fire!

Surprisingly, it wasn’t as hard as I expected, once I prioritized a little.

What books would you save in a fire?
Or would you risk your life to save them all?
Have you read any of the books I chose?
