Let’s jump into my favourite jokesters in books which are arguably my favourite kind of character!
│Henry ‘Monty‘ Montague│The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue│Mackenzi Lee│
“I swear, you would play the coquette with a well-upholstered sofa.”
“First, I would not. And second, how handsome is this sofa?”
I just finished The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue and Jesus Christ it was just sooo good!
Monty was so much and fun and hilarious! Percy and Felicity are hilarious as well but they just don’t have the charm Monty has I’m sorry!
He reminds me of drag queen Adore Delano in that he’s a complete and utter mess and you can’t help but love him anyway.
Also “Bisexual Catastrophe” is the best description of Monty ever. All the rest can go home.
│Magnus Bane│The Shadowhunters Books│Cassandra Clare│
“We actually had a very pleasant meal, even though you were still very drunk.”
“I’m sure I must have been sobering up at that point,” Magnus argued.
“Magnus, you were trying to flirt with your own plate.”
“I’m a very open-minded sort of fellow!”
Magnus Bane reminds me so much of my mum! They’re just both so carefree and mischievous and just want a really good drink and sparkly things.
Honestly, Magnus is by far my favourite character in the whole Shadowhunters world. Name someone more iconic from that world. I’ll wait.
│Jesper Fahey│Six of Crows Duology│Leigh Bardugo│
“Has anyone noticed this whole city is looking for us, mad at us, or wants to kill us?”
“So?” said Kaz.
“Well, usually it’s just half the city.”
I love Jesper so much because he’s incredibly flawed but he tries his best and he just wants to be a good friend and flirt with cute girls and boys and make everyone laugh while he’s doing it.
│Nicky Hemmick│All for the Game Trilogy│Nora Sakavic│
“No one needs to eat this before a game,” Kevin said. “Eat some granola or protein if you;re that hungry.”
“Hello, there’s protein in the peanut butter,” Nicky said. “Let go of me before I tell Andrew you’re outlawing chocolate. I said let go. You’re not the boss of me. Ouch! Did you seriously just hit me?” […]
“When our defense is sluggish we all suffer.” Kevin said.
“You aren’t serious,” Nicky said. “We’ve got how many hours until serve? This will all be out of my system by then. You can watch me take a shit if you don’t believe me. I didn’t think you were into that kind of thing but—ha,” he crowed when Keven stomped off. He flashed Neil a triumphant grin, oblivious the the way the store clerks were staring at them.
That scene is iconic. Nicky is a sweet baby angel that needs to be protected at all costs. I’d probably take a bullet for him.
│Rhy Maresh & Lila Bard│Shades of Magic Trilogy│V. E. Schwab│
“I apologize for anything I might have done. I was not myself.”
“I apologize for shooting you in the leg.” said Lila. “I was myself entirely.”
Rhy broke into his perfect smile.
“I like this one,” he said to Kell. “Can I borrow her?”
“You can try,” said Lila, raising a brow. “But you’ll be a prince without his fingers.
Kell grimaced, but Rhy only laughed.
Please don’t yell at me for breaking the rule. I just couldn’t choose one.
First, we’ve got Rhy who is a bi icon and just wants to enjoy being a prince and have fun with his brother. Then you have Lila who just wants to live instead of just surviving and also create as much mayhem as possible.
These two are just so great, I love them.
Look at that diverse list!
4 bisexual characters, 3/4 of those being POC, a gay man of colour and a cross-dressing woman
who in my head is bi af.
I thought this would be a lot harder than it actually was. I suppose when I love a character, I really love them and they’re usually jokesters by nature.
Who are your favourite jokesters?
